Singer's Salon Workshop coming!

Singer’s Salon returns with new workshops designed to enhance your singing and performing! For the first of this series we welcome ALL singers across the board in terms of genre.
Bring sheet music for your song, (Justin Bernard Bowse will accompany) and receive feedback from the group as well as from yours truly –then try it again!
This will be a small group and you’ll have an opportunity to work your song. Singer/songwriters and folks who self-accompany are welcome too. Bring your latest song and work out some of the performance nerves, get indeas for ways to increase your presence, and effectiveness in story-telling.
Cabaret people, this is perfect for you!
Musical Theater peeps, bring your 32 bars (for two songs if you like, given shorter length). Or work on an entire song! (WHAAAAT???)
I will address any vocal issues that arise. Trouble singing that one passage? How do I phrase this? I can’t breathe! We got cha.

Voice lessons
Voice lessons are taught privately by appointment in Wendy Parman’s studio on the north side of Chicago, as well as beginning piano and performance coaching. She offers periodic workshops and Singer’s Salons.

As an instructor, Wendy is most interested in helping students find their true voice and artistic style, as well as the pure joy of singing effortlessly. She teaches students to find expression through and with a foundation of technique, rather then in spite of it. Her style is nurturing, yet disciplined, and sprinkled liberally with good natured humor.

Wendy will instruct you in all aspects of singing including breath management and support, tone, resonance, range, registration/blend, diction, and placement, as well as releasing unwanted habits, chronic tensions, and expressing the emotional life and text of the song. She will coach you on how to approach singing, auditioning and performing at your best!
She is adept at helping singers find their special connection to the song as well as the audience. She is classically trained, but also uses modern techniques that are suited to contemporary music of all kinds, from Rock ‘n roll to musical theater, jazz, blues, soul, country and more. As a songwriter herself, Wendy frequently coaches singer/songwriters not only on singing technique but ways to perform their songs more effectively. Wendy’s whole Body/Voice approach includes Somatic Voicework™ The Lovetri Method, Linklater and Alexander Techniques, among others.
Wendy enjoys working with students of all ages and levels of ability. Feel free to reach out with questions or concerns. NEW! Now offering online lessons!
Lessons are offered in 30, 45 and 60 min increments. Call for pricing and availability, or contact her via email.

Performance Coaching
Wendy works with singers and actors both on performance skills, including monologue coaching and other performance concerns. She has worked with a number of bands,  and other groups to helpimprove general vocals, tighten up harmonies or work on stage presence issues. Feel free to contact her with questions!

Singer’s Salon

The Singer’s Salon premiered in 2011 and has enjoyed a number of incarnations at various venues, originating at Deagen Music, then finding at home at 3160-Chicago’s Piano Bar & Cabaret, DC Torium, and now mostly at Wendy Parman Voice Studio in the Irving Park neighborhood. It is an open mic, with piano accompanist provided, (the marvelous Justin Bernard Bowse), usually BYOB and lots of fun. An opportunity to perform in a casual and supportive environment. Contact Wendy for more info. Dates are periodically updated.

  1. Hi, Interested in lessons, have been singing for a few years, would say intermediate level but never took formal lessons, I sing in a rock band and am mainly looking to work on my breath control, projecting, stage presence and overall confidence/consistency, very influenced by Jeff Buckley, Thom Yorke, Ann Wilson type singers but also really into soulful singers, Gaye, Badu, Redding etc. let me know if you have availability, would be looking to do 3-4 lessons spread out. Thanks

  2. Hi Wendy! I was wondering if there is still room in your studio? I might not be in the Chicagoland area for much longer, but I would like to try and work with another voice teacher, mostly because my prior voice teacher was amazing at bel canto, but she wasn’t a big fan of my exploring musical theatre techniques and I want to start working on that more!

    • Hi Shannon, Why don’t you email me your questions at wlparman@gmail.com. If you’d like to talk on the phone or text, we can do that as well at 773-474-8471. Leave me a message and I’ll get back to you. However tomorrow, Friday I am really swamped, so I may not get back to you until Saturday.
Look forward to hearing from you,

  3. Hi Wendy,

I received your name from Shivani Twells whose son, Arjun took piano lessons with you.
I have an (almost) 7 year old son who has been taking lessons for two years. His teacher has moved, so I’m looking into other possible teachers. I would appreciate information about your classes, fees and location of your studio.
    Thank you so much,

    Brett Garry

  4. hi Wendy could you please provide me your open spot for voice lessons for my son and daughter, please email me.

  5. Various offerings look interesting. I’d especially like to know more about the 3-week Singer’s Spotlight Workshop.

    • Thanks for your interest Leona! I am looking to put together a new Spotlight Workshop and will let you know-probably will be one this summer. I no longer have my previous venue for the performance so I have to iron out the details. 🙂
